Where is grid in photoshop cs5

The grid is useful for laying out elements symmetrically. The grid appears by default as nonprinting lines but can also be displayed as dots. Selections, selection borders, and tools snap to a guide or the grid when dragged within 8 screen not image pixels.

Guides also snap to the grid when moved. You can turn this feature on and off. This command also shows or hides layer edges, selection edges, target paths, and slices.

In the dialog box, select Horizontal or Vertical orientation, enter a position, and click OK. Hold down Shift and drag from the horizontal or vertical ruler to create a guide that snaps to the ruler ticks.

The pointer changes to a double-headed arrow when you drag a guide. Change the guide from horizontal to vertical, or vice versa, by holding down Alt Windows or Option Mac OS as you click or drag the guide. Align the guide with the ruler ticks by holding down Shift as you drag the guide. For Color , choose a color for the guides, the grid, or both. If you choose Custom , click the color box, choose a color, and click OK.

For Style , choose a display option for guides or the grid, or both. For Gridline Every , enter a value for the grid spacing. Smart Guides are special guides that appear onscreen when certain spatial relationships occur between objects on your document. Note that these objects are all on separate layers. Turning on snapping makes the guides almost work like magnets with the edges of the objects. After the object aligns to a guide, you can gently move it along that line to snap it into place with other guides, too.

The grid appears on your document and by default the gridlines are spaced an inch apart with four subdivisions. In the example below, you can see another poster with the grid overlayed. In the Preferences dialog box, adjust the canvas guide colours by clicking on the swatch and picking from the options. You change the colour of the smart guides and grid this way too.

Use the Subdivisions field to control how many lines appear between each gridline. Subscribe now to get a free printable poster showing all of the Photoshop tools and their keyboard shortcut. Now check your email to confirm your subscription and download your Photoshop Toolbar cheatsheet.

This can be especially helpful when trying to align shapes such as rectangles so that they begin and end on a full pixel to avoid anti-aliased edges. As a result, all sides of the rectangle are solid note, even though the initial rectangle shape might not have been drawn in perfect alignment to the pixel grid, Photoshop automatically snapped the rectangle to that grid because the preference was turned on. This resulted in anti-aliased edges varying levels of opacity because the rectangle the vector path was not perfectly aligned to a pixel edge when the rectangle was drawn.

I expect that most people will leave the Snap Vector Tools and Transforms to Pixel Grid preference turned on as it will help to avoid anti-aliased edges when drawing shapes as well as transforming them making alignment clean and precise.
