It became a popular Friday evening football preview show and made Hazel the first woman to become a dedicated anchor of a football programme in the UK. The big, black chair and beyond….. In Hazel was given her first chance to sit in the Grandstand hot seat at BBC Sport, becoming the youngest ever presenter of the flagship show.
She often hosted the programme over the next 15 years, and indeed fronted the last ever Saturday Grandstand in Snooker She has become particularly associated with several key sports including snooker, teaming up with colleagues John Parrott and Steve Davis in Golf Hazel first presented golf for BBC Sport in and went on to become the first woman to anchor full live coverage of both the Open Championship and the Masters at Augusta.
She began her broadcasting career in radio, but ended up in TV in when she began working for Scottish Television in as a continuity announcer. Hazel has said: "I started off working for Radio Clyde. I did all sorts of general production for them for 10 or 11 months. Part of the remit was doing all the technical side for the football matches. However, Hazel is known to keep her private life private - and not even her colleagues knew about her wedding. Sue's bubbly personality and professionalism have made her the UK's leading female sports presenter.
Over the last twelve years she has established herself as a key figure on the BBC Sports team, fronting such television coverage as The Olympics, Grandstand and of course, Wimbledon. She is also the presenter of the ever-popular sports quiz A Question of Sport. She now provides media training, is a regular host for conference and seminars as well as being a regular fixture on the BBC in the midlands.
