Michonne was definitely an iconic character, especially since she was a black woman who was truly a bold action hero. What do you feel about the impact you and this character had on popular culture?
I can only be thankful that this character was created at all, that she was able to be this remarkable woman in the way she was scripted, arced and developed, and how I was able to collaborate with that.
It was very beautiful to see her resonance. It was an event to see a character like this brought to life on the screen. All I can think of is the moment. Cable TV can survive the streaming wars. AMC chief Sarah Barnett explains how. Strange question: How many walkers do you think Michonne has dispatched during the show? Ballpark figure. Oh, my, I have no idea. The beauty of collaborating and the beauty of being part of a family, but putting the respect for each other first.
It has seamlessly seemed like family. Stepping into that and experiencing all these wonderful people I became family with and will always be family with has been palpably and extremely rewarding. You are part of the production and you must be respected and acknowledged as much as anybody else. Warning, spoilers follow. The episode featured Michonne taking Virgil back to his island with the goal of reuniting with his family and obtaining weapons for the ongoing war with the Whisperers.
But things weren't what they seemed on Virgil's mysterious island. Yes, his family was there, but they were turned. Virgil asked Michonne to put them down, and she obliged, but there were no weapons…and Virgil was not what he seemed. Instead, when Michonne went snooping and discovered Virgil had other people on the island, he captured her and put her through one heck of a trip.
Drugged, Michonne relived key moments of her life on the show, and hallucinated about what things would've been like had things turned out differently. In her drug-induced trip, she had visions of not saving Andrea Laurie Holden and instead falling in with Negan Jeffrey Dean Morgan and the saviors. The Whisperers were certainly nomadic, but they look like a little gathering compared to this group, which is like Coachella marching through the valley.
What shape does that story take place? A Michonne-centric film or limited series all her own? Right now, the plans have to do with the feature film. Of course, all Walking Dead plans are currently in flux, as television production across the industry grapples with the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic. According to AMC, production on The Walking Dead season 11, which typically starts in May and shoots through November, has been pushed by three weeks, with the writers room currently working remotely.
Production has been underway on Fear the Walking Dead , but is now paused due to the pandemic. Gimple spoke with THR before news of upcoming spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond moving from its intended April 12 debut to a new as yet revealed premiere date , an indication of how rapidly the situation is developing.
There are so many people who work on these shows. We want everyone safe and healthy. We all have to pull together to make sure everyone is safe and healthy. All the shows are in some degree or another of writing.
